Photo of the Week - Giraffe - Kariega Game Reserve

Taken by Peter Mills in the Eastern Cape, South Africa

This week's photo of the week reminds us of the strange layers and intricacies of nature. While a snowflake or a spider's web may be perfectly symmetrical, there are other kinds of delicacies that are just as perfect.

Part of this natural delicacy, is the human gaze that gently places this lovely creature under a lace-like filter. Perfect framing is offset only by the camera's inability to focus both near and far - an incredible skill that is easily and skilfully performed by the human eye. In real time, when glancing from branch to giraffe, a change in focus is quick and unnoticeable. Here, giraffe is captured in an asymmetrically perfect frame in an imperfect focus which speaks oh-so-gently of our own perfect and wonderful human gaze.

Have a happy Friday from all at Kariega!
