In celebration of National Birding Day today we would like to share some information on a rarely spotted bird that was recently photographed at Kariega Game Reserve by our headranger Jason Friend. The Barred Owlet is known for it's scattered and isolated populations, and their occurrence in the Eastern Cape is particularly intriguing.
Kariega Conservation Volunteers celebrated Children's Day this year by spending the day playing with the students from Farmerfield School. "We played all the games we could possibly think of from our childhood and had lots of fun and great laughs. What a Wonderful Wednesday!"

Kariega Game Reserve was recently the location of an Africa Geographic photographic safari, hosted by the very talented photographer and ranger Brendon Jennings. The success of this specialised five day safari has led to the scheduling of two more Africa Geographic photo safaris at Kariega - one in May 2014 and one in September 2014.
