She has been called “Bush child” and “African child” amongst others. These names vaguely describe her incredible passion for wildlife, Africa and its people. Azel is a young, passionate conservationist on a mission to involve and educate people about the complex, amazing and beautiful natural habitat that we as humans have grown apart from over the centuries. Her goal is to get visiting volunteers to see what she sees in this ‘untouched’ continent we call Africa.

Azel finished her Honors degree (Cum laude) in Conservation ecology at the University of Stellenbosch and is planning to start with a Master’s degree in 2013. Azel grew up on her grandfather’s wildlife farm in the Limpopo province of South Africa and she believes that it is where her compelling passion for the bush and its inhabitants originated. She has also been part of various volunteer programs over the years and has eagerly seized every opportunity to travel and explore. Azel firmly believes that conservation is the management of people and she is very excited about her future at Kariega Game Reserve, where she will be walking the road with people who share her passion.

So all 2013 conservation volunteers at Kariega; rest assured you are in good hands!
