Meet Our General Manager
Alan Weyer has a long affiliation with both the Eastern Cape landscape and its cultural and historical essence. As Tour Guide of the Year 2005; winner of the SA Tourism Grand Prix Welcome Award; renowned raconteur and comedian; and former pineapple farmer, Alan Weyer is well acquainted with the people, places and history of our beautiful province.
Prior to joining the Kariega family, Alan founded Spirits of the Past Historical Day Tours, a tour covering the region’s history of spectacular battles and courageous people. It was his captivating narrative and wide historical knowledge that won him Tour Guide of the Year in 2005 and the inaugural SA Tourism Grand Prix Award in 2006. A deep understanding of culture and the dynamics which inform today’s society has also made Alan a sought-after keynote speaker for local businesses that are keen to succeed in our modern, multicultural environment.
Alan’s dynamism also has a history in the art of entertainment, and he is most well-known as one half of the two man comedic act, Boet ‘n Swaer. Inspired by their own experiences as farmers in the Albany area, the show is a wildly hilarious expose on local Eastern Cape culture and politics, which over the last 2 decades has captivated both South African and international audiences.
Kariega was proud to welcome Alan as general manager to the Reserve in 2010, where he is now known to entertain and captivate guests with great historical tales and humorous anecdotes, sharing with them the wonder of the African bush.
