Africa needs investment and tourism to preserve its natural wonders and create opportunities for its people. South Africa especially merits support for its remarkable and ongoing transformation. So what can you do to help? By supporting the Kariega Foundation you can play an immediate role in the betterment of local livelihoods – donate today!
Kariega Game Reserve is the largest employer in the Kenton-on-Sea area and is committed to responsible tourism, social upliftment and sustainable use of resources. The Kariega Foundation was born out of our desire to work with our local neighbours in uplifting and empowering their community, through the funding and implementation of community projects.
The immediate beneficiaries of the Kariega Foundation are the three local schools in the Kenton-on-Sea area – Farmfield School; Ekamvalesizwe School; and Nompucuko School. At Kariega we believe that the future of our country lies in the hands of the youth and that education is the vehicle to opportunity and sustainable living. Our vision is to transform these very underprivileged schools into sanctities of pride and beacons of hope within their distressed and poor communities. With the help of dedicated volunteers, who have been part of the Kariega Conservation Volunteer Programme, the Foundation has managed to complete numerous projects at these 3 schools, but there is still much to do!
The Kariega Foundation is not only concerned with social upliftment, but is also strongly dedicated to sustainable wildlife management and conservation. The Leopard Project has been set up by the Foundation in order to track the occurrence and habits of the rare Cape Leopard in the Kariega area. Find out more about this project on the Leopard Project page.
The Thandi & Themba rhino fund was launched in March 2012 after a terrible poaching incident which left 2 of Kariega's rhino severely injured. The fund was dedicated to providing the best possible care and chance for survival of these 2 incredible creatures. Find out more about Thandi and Themba on the Save the Rhino page.
